Alain Altinoglu

Alain Altinoglu has been the principal conductor of the hr Symphony Orchestra in Frankfurt since the start of the 2021/22 season. Since 2016 he has also been music director at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels.

As a guest conductor Alain Altinoglu appears regularly with leading orchestras such as the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Boston and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Stockholm, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra and all the major Paris orchestras.

At the 2021 Salzburg Festival, he conducted a concert performance of Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust. Highlights of the 2021/22 season have included the Vienna Philharmonic’s first concert of the season, his debuts with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic, and guest appearances with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Berlin.

Alain Altinoglu appears regularly with leading opera companies all over the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Vienna, Berlin and Bavarian State Operas, the Zurich Opera, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Paris Opéra. He has also conducted at the Bayreuth, Orange and Aix-en-Provence Festivals.

In addition to his work as a conductor, Alain Altinoglu also has a great affinity with the song repertoire and appears regularly as a pianist with the mezzo-soprano Nora Gubisch. His discography includes recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Naïve, Pentatone and Cascavelle as well as DVD recordings of Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher and of Der fliegende Holländer, The Golden Cockerel, Iolanta, The Nutcracker and Pelléas et Mélisande.

Alain Altinoglu was born in Paris and studied at the city’s Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where he now teaches a class in conducting.
