Alain Altinoglu

Alain Altinoglu is the music director of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, chief conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the Festival International de Colmar. Both at La Monnaie, where he has been in position since 2015, and with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he began his tenure in the 2021/22 season, he has earned widespread acclaim for his visionary leadership, compelling performances and innovative programming. The first edition of the Festival de Colmar under his direction took place in July 2023.

In the 2025/26 season he returned to the Vienna State Opera for Pelléas et Mélisande and conducted Falstaff and a new production of Benvenuto Cellini directed by Thaddeus Strassberger at La Monnaie. He appeared with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra at international festivals such as the Prague Spring Festival, the George Enescu Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Dresden Music Festival and the Kissinger Sommer, and on a tour of Spain. He has also continued his close collaborations with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris, and returned to work with the Cleveland Orchestra.

Alain Altinoglu works regularly with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, and all the major Paris orchestras.

A sought-after opera conductor, Alain Altinoglu regularly works with the world’s most renowned opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, La Scala, Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Zurich Opera House, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Berlin State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the three Paris opera houses. He has also conducted productions at the Salzburg, Bayreuth, Orange and Aix-en-Provence festivals.

Alongside his conducting activities he works intensively as a pianist specializing in art song repertory, and performs regularly with the mezzo-soprano Nora Gubisch. His discography includes recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Naïve, Pentatone and Cascavelle, and DVD recordings of Der fliegende Holländer, The Golden Cockerel, Iolanta, The Nutcracker, Pelléas et Mélisande, Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher and other works.

Alain Altinoglu was born in Paris and studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he currently teaches orchestral conducting.
