Roberto Tagliavini

The Italian bass Roberto Tagliavini was born in Parma, where he studied with the baritone Romano Franceschetto. He appears regularly at leading opera houses in a repertory that extends from bel canto works and Mozart to Verdi’s operas and French repertory. His roles include Rossini’s Selim (Il turco in Italia), Mustafà (L’italiana in Algeri), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Fernando (La gazza ladra), Lord Sidney (Il viaggio a Reims), Maometto II, Elmiro (Otello) and Governeur (Le Comte Ory), Mozart’s Count Almaviva and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Bellini’s Rodolfo (La sonnambula), Oroveso (Norma) and Giorgio (I puritani), Donizetti’s Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Verdi’s Banco (Macbeth), Attila, Zaccaria (Nabucco) and Pagano (I Lombardi alla prima crociata), and Count Des Grieux (Manon), Escamillo (Carmen), Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette) and the four villains in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. On the concert stage he has appeared in works including the Requiems by Mozart, Donizetti and Verdi, and Rossini’s Stabat Mater.

The many renowned opera houses and concert halls where Roberto Tagliavini has performed include La Scala, Milan, the Paris Opéra, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Vienna and Bavarian State Operas, the Zurich Opera House, the Los Angeles Opera, the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. At the Salzburg Festival, where he made his debut in 2007, he most recently sang the King in Aida.

Future engagements will include La sonnambula, Carmen and La Cenerentola in Vienna, Maometto II in Naples, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Macbeth and Norma in Munich and Nabucco in Berlin.
