Three Women Shape the Life of Jedermann in 2026
As summer 2026 approaches, Jedermann will once again return to Salzburg’s Cathedral Square. In this special production by Robert Carsen, three outstanding actresses will shape the life of the title character and bring Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s legendary work to life in a new and fascinating way.
At today’s press conference in Vienna, the cast was announced:
-
Roxane Duran as the Paramour (Buhlschaft)
-
Sylvie Rohrer in the dual role of A Poor Neighbour / Good Deeds (Werke)
-
Daniela Ziegler as Jedermann’s Mother
Director Robert Carsen on the new faces:
“I am absolutely delighted to welcome three actresses who are as talented as they are creative to next summer’s cast of Jedermann: Daniela Ziegler, Roxane Duran and Sylvie Rohrer. These three women shape the life of the character portrayed by Philipp Hochmair – before, during and after his unimaginable realisation that the moment of his death has come.
As I have said before, Jedermann holds great symbolic power for the Salzburg Festival. Year after year, the play is – for all of us, both the artists and the audience – another attempt to confront our own mortality. That is easier said than done, but for me personally it is a great joy to face the challenge of 2026 together with these wonderful actresses. As different as they are, they are united by their personal, experimental and passionate approach to artistic work. I cannot wait to bring Jedermann 2026 to the Cathedral Square with them and the entire ensemble.”
Roxane Duran on her role as the Paramour:
“Every summer of my school years was shaped by the Salzburg Festival – the magnificent productions, the beautiful city and the intoxicating culture. To be part of it, to have the privilege of portraying the Paramour, is a dream come true. I am endlessly excited to share this experience.”
Sylvie Rohrer on her dual role A Poor Neighbour / Good Deeds:
“From the Poor Neighbour to Good Deeds – this also reflects Jedermann’s shifting perception of life when confronted with death. I am looking forward to working with Robert Carsen, the whole ensemble and the magnificent Cathedral Square.”
Daniela Ziegler on her role as Jedermann’s Mother:
“It is a great pleasure for me to make my debut at the Salzburg Festival and to become part of the long and significant tradition of Hofmannsthal’s founding work, following in the footsteps of the wonderful actresses who have portrayed Jedermann’s Mother before me. Contributing to this extraordinary production by Robert Carsen means a great deal to me.”
Philipp Hochmair on Jedermann 2026:
“I am very much looking forward to returning to the Cathedral Square in 2026 and to continuing to perform Jedermann and Robert Carsen’s brilliant production together with the new colleagues.”
