The dramaturg Yvonne Gebauer was born in 1972 in Berlin and studied German literature, philosophy and religious studies at the Free University of Berlin. Since 1998 she has worked in theatre, but especially in opera. She collaborated for more than twenty years with the director Hans Neuenfels. She also has long-standing working partnerships with Claus Guth, Christof Loy and Nadja Loschky. In addition, she has worked as a dramaturg for productions by Kazuko Watanabe, Johan Simons, Frank Hilbrich, Tobias Kratzer, David Hermann, Amélie Niermeyer and other directors. She has lectured in dramaturgy in Reinhard von der Thannen’s costume class at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, in Erich Wonder’s design class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, in Amélie Niermeyer’s directing class at Salzburg’s Mozarteum University, in Stefan Hageneier’s design class at the Weißensee Art Academy in Berlin and at Berlin’s Hanns Eisler School of Music. From 2001 to 2008 she worked as a freelance editor for the literature pages of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. From 2009 to 2018 she was employed as a visual dramaturg at the Bavarian State Opera, including as picture editor of the house magazine, Max Joseph.
