Yvonne Gebauer

The dramaturge Yvonne Gebauer was born in Berlin in 1972 and read German studies, philosophy and religious studies at Berlin’s Free University. Since 1998 she has been active in the theatre, chiefly in opera. For many years she worked with the director Hans Neuenfels and is also closely associated with Claus Guth, Christof Loy and Nadja Loschky. Other directors with whom she has worked as a dramaturge include Kazuko Watanabe, Johan Simons, Amélie Niermeyer, Frank Hilbrich, Ben Frost, Tobias Kratzer and David Hermann. She has lectured in dramaturgy in Reinhard von der Thannen’s costume class at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, in Erich Wonder’s design class at the Academy of Visual Arts in Vienna, in Amélie Niermeyer’s directing class at Salzburg’s Mozarteum University and in Stefan Hageneier’s design class at both the ‘Hanns Eisler’ School of Music in Berlin and at the Weißensee Art Academy in the city. From 2001 to 2008 she worked as a freelance editor for the arts pages of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. From 2009 to 2018 she was employed as a dramaturge at the Bavarian State Opera, including picture editor of the house magazine, Max Joseph.
