Vincenzo Capezzuto

The dancer and countertenor Vincenzo Capezzuto was discovered as a singer in 2009 by Christina Pluhar. Since then, he has worked regularly with her ensemble L’Arpeggiata, including on the ECHO Award-winning productions Via Crucis (2010) and Los Pájaros Perdidos (2012), as well as Music for a While (2014). He has appeared with L’Arpeggiata at venues and festivals including the Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Ludwigsburg Festival, the Dresden Music Festival and the Hong Kong Arts Festival, and on seven recordings with the label Warner Classics.

Alongside his work with L’Arpeggiata he has performed with orchestras and ensembles including Capella Cracoviensis, the Georgian Sinfonietta, the Orchestra da Camera di Perugia, the Ensamble Barroco de Bogotá, Prisma Wien and Tetraktis Percussioni.

His recent projects have included the role of Uomo del mare in the 2024 world premiere of Silvia Colasanti’s L’ultimo viaggio di Sindbad at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, and, in 2025, his new music programme 800 Napoletano with the Motus Mandolin Trio. The 2025/26 season includes a European tour with L’Arpeggiata, with which group he returns to the Salzburg Whitsun Festival in Übers Meer.

His repertory includes works such as Monteverdi’s Il ballo delle ingrate, Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, Vivaldi’s Salve Regina and Bach’s St Matthew Passion.

At the request of Donna Leon, he recorded Venetian gondoliers’ songs for her book and CD project Gondola with il Pomo d’Oro under Riccardo Minasi and with the participation of Cecilia Bartoli as a guest artist.

In 2012 he and Claudio Borgianni founded the Ensemble Soqquadro Italiano, which is currently one of the most innovative ensembles on the international music scene; its performances include an appearance at the Venice Biennale.

Vincenzo Capezzuto was born in 1979 in Salerno and studied classical dance. He made his debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, where he was promoted to soloist, and has danced with international companies such as English National Ballet, Julio Bocca’s Ballet Argentino and Michele Merola’s MM Contemporary Dance Company. From 2005 to 2011 he was a principal dancer with the  company Aterballetto. He has participated in ballets by famous choreographers such as Alvin Ailey, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Roland Petit and Ohad Naharin, and has received numerous dance awards.
