Vida Miknevičiūtė

Lithuanian soprano Vida Miknevičiūtė made her Vienna State Opera debut as Salome during the 2020/21 season and first sang the role of Elsa (Lohengrin) in Calixto Bieito’s new production at the Berlin State Opera. She is making her Salzburg Festival debut as Chrysothemis.

Engagements during the 2021/22 season include her debut at the Bavarian State Opera as Giuditta in a new production of Lehár’s operetta and return visits to the Vienna State Opera as Marietta (Die tote Stadt), to the Hamburg State Opera as Chrysothemis, to the Berlin State Opera as Elsa and Chrysothemis and to the Leipzig Opera as Irene (Rienzi).

Vida Miknevičiūtė made her acclaimed Berlin State Opera debut as Chrysothemis under Daniel Barenboim in January 2019, returning as Helmwige (Die Walküre) in September 2019. She has also been heard recently as Princess Natalie in Henze’s Der Prinz von Homburg at the Stuttgart State Opera, as Elettra (Idomeneo) at the Kassel State Theatre, as Marguerite (Faust) and Lisa (The Queen of Spades) at the Latvian National Opera in Riga and as Maria / Amelia (Simon Boccanegra) at the Mainz State Theatre. She made her role debut as Salome at Victorian Opera in Melbourne in February 2020, a performance acclaimed by public and press alike.

Between 2011 and 2020 Vida Miknevičiūtė was a member of the Mainz State Theatre. In addition to the above-mentioned houses, guest appearances have taken her to the Frankfurt Opera, the Hesse State Theatre in Wiesbaden and elsewhere. A former member of the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera, she continues to be a welcome guest in Hamburg and was heard as Freia (Das Rheingold) during the company’s visit to Brisbane.

Among the many artists who have influenced and encouraged Vida Miknevičiūtė have been Simone Young, Daniel Barenboim, Ádám Fischer, Valery Gergiev, Alexander Joel, Eun Sun Kim, Peter Schneider, Kent Nagano, Gintaras Rinkevičius and Hermann Bäumer. The directors with whom she has worked include Lorenzo Fioroni, Katharina Thalbach, Johannes Schütz, Tilman Knabe, Harry Kupfer, Christof Nel, Tom Ryser and Vera Nemirova.

Concert appearances have taken Vida Miknevičiūtė to the Zurich Tonhalle, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle, the Gergiev Festival in Mikkeli in Finland, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Bratislava Music Festival, the Auditori in Barcelona and the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid as well as to her native Latvia.
