Theresa Wilson

Costume designer

The German-Canadian costume designer Theresa Wilson has been collaborating with Romeo Castellucci for many years. Together they created the costumes for Salome (2018), Don Giovanni (2021 and 2024) and Bluebeard’s Castle/ De temporum fine comoedia (2022) at the Salzburg Festival. Their other collaborative projects have taken them to major venues in Berlin, Amsterdam and Brussels.

While still a student, Theresa Wilson gained valuable experience at famous opera houses including the Vienna and Berlin State Operas, the Paris Opéra and the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. During this time she worked as a costume assistant to Katrin Lea Tag and Christian Schmidt on productions by Otto Schenk, Tatjana Gürbaca, Claus Guth and Michael Thalheimer.

She then spent a year working as costume assistant to the French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier at the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin. During this time, she also realized her first independent productions.

She went on to teach for two years at Watkins College of Art at Belmont University in Nashville, while also working on costume designs for the Nashville Opera.

Following her return to Germany she worked at Theater Freiburg and established herself as a freelance costume designer.

Her recent work includes the costume designs for Detlef Heusinger’s production of Die Zeitreisemaschine at the Landestheater Detmold and the Bregenz Festival, for Claus Guth’s production of Elektra for the Frankfurt Opera and for Georg Zlabinger’s productions of Eugene Onegin, Káťa Kabanová and Don Giovanni at Theater Bielefeld and of Otello at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo.
