Teresa Iervolino

Italian mezzo-soprano Teresa Iervolino studied at the Avellino Conservatory before continuing her studies at masterclasses run by Marco Berti, Domenico Colajanni, Alfonso Antoniozzi, Daniela Barcellona, Bernadette Manca Di Nissa, Bruno Nicoli and Stefano Giannini. She won third prize in the 2010 Ravello Città della Musica International Singing Competition, a first prize and two special prizes in the 2012 Città di Bologna International Singing Competition and first prizes in the 2012 Salice d’Oro Competition, the 2012 Maria Caniglia Competition and the 2013 Premio Etta Limiti Competition. In 2012 and 2013 she also won the Associazione Lirica e Concertistica Italiana (AsLiCo) Competition for Young Opera Singers from Europe.

Teresa Iervolino made her professional debut in May 2012 in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, following this up with Maddalena (Rigoletto) in Chieti, Isabella (L’italiana in Algeri) in Como and Ravenna, Miss Baggott (The Little Sweep) at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Fidalma (Il matrimonio segreto) at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Maffio Orsini (Lucrezia Borgia) in Padua, the title role in Tancredi in Como, Brescia and Padua, Clarice (La pietra del paragone) at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and Calbo (Maometto II) and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for the Rome Opera. She has also performed Rossini’s cantata Giovanna d’Arco with the Tokyo Philharmonic and appeared in Pulcinella at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

Teresa Iervolino’s most recent engagements have included Cornelia (Giulio Cesare) under Rinaldo Alessandrini in Toulon, Holofernes (Juditha triumphans) under Alessandro De Marchi in Venice, Lucia (La gazza ladra) under Donato Renzetti at the Rossini Opera Festival and at La Scala, Milan, Rosina at the Rome Opera and Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the Paris Opéra.

In addition to the foregoing conductors, Teresa Iervolino has also worked with Roberto Abbado, Alberto Zedda, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Stefano Montanari and Ivor Bolton. Under Riccardo Minasi she has recorded the role of Rosmira in Handel’s opera Partenope.

Following her Salzburg Festival debut as Maffio Orsini, her plans for 2017/18 include Maffio Orsini at the Bavarian State Opera and Isabella in Nancy and Palermo.
