Sylvain Cadars
Live electronics specialist
The live electronics specialist Sylvain Cadars has a degree in acoustic and computer music from the Université Paris VIII and studied acoustics and electronics at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (CNAM) in Paris.
Since then, he has worked as a sound engineer at IRCAM, where he has collaborated with composers including Philippe Manoury, Marco Stroppa and Michaël Lévinas, and participated in several studies on the spatiality of contemporary works and on their public dissemination.
As an internationally sought-after sound technologist and interpreter of music with live electronics, he performs regularly at new music festivals including Wien Modern, the Festival 20·21 Transit in Leuven, Radio France’s Festival Présences and the PAN Music Festival in South Korea.
In the course of his long career working with electronic music for live concerts, recordings and opera, he has collaborated with composers such as Franck Bedrossian, Pierre Boulez, Chaya Czernowin, Philippe Manoury and Alberto Posadas, and with European music ensembles including Klangforum Wien, Ictus, Le Balcon, L’Instant Donné, the Belgian vocal ensemble HYOID, the Ensemble intercontemporain and the Ensemble Musikfabrik.
He has produced recordings, edits and mixes for various record labels.
In 2024 Sylvain Cadars participated in the world premieres of Aaron Einbond’s Prestidigitation II for chamber ensemble and live electronics at the Festival Présences and Bernhard Lang’s GAME 2 4 5: The Mirror Stage for four voices, electric guitar and loops at the Transit Festival. In 2023 he was responsible for sound direction for the world premiere of Michael Jarrell’s 4 Îles d’un archipel for solo percussion, instrumental ensemble and live electronics.
