One of the most exciting and sought-after artists of our time, the French tenor Stanislas de Barbeyrac came to international attention in 2014 with his performances as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Since then, he has performed at some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, including the Paris Opéra, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, the Dutch National Opera, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the San Francisco Opera and the Salzburg Festival.

In the 2024/25 season he returned to the Royal Opera House in London as Siegmund in Barrie Kosky’s new production of Die Walküre under Antonio Pappano, and sang Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia and in concert at the Norwegian National Opera. He made his Greek National Opera debut as Pylade in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, a role which he previously sang in Aix-en-Provence. On the concert platform he appeared with Le Concert de la Loge and Julien Chauvin at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and sang in Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C minor with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus. He closes the season with a return to the Salzburg Festival with the Vienna Philharmonic.

Previous highlights included Jason in Cherubini’s Médée at La Scala, Milan, and the Berlin State Opera, Siegmund (Die Walküre) on a European tour with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma under Omer Meir Wellber, Don José (Carmen) at the Opéra de Rouen Normandie, Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande at the George Enescu Festival and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Santtu-Matias Rouvali.

Stanislas de Barbeyrac studied at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux with Lionel Sarrazin, who remains his vocal mentor. In 2008 he participated in the Atelier Lyrique de L’Opéra de Paris; he went on to begin his career at the theatres of Nice, Tours, Toulon, Strasbourg, Metz, Marseille and Avignon. He is a prize-winner of several renowned competitions, including the Prix Lyrique du Cercle Carpeaux, the Prix de l’Arop and the Concours Reine Elisabeth in Brussels.
