Sophia Faltas
Mezzo-soprano
The young mezzo-soprano Sophia Faltas discovered her love of early music during her time in the Netherlands national choirs, with which she participated in numerous concerts with leading orchestras and conductors. She has also performed with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Ton Koopman, the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
In the 2025/26 season her appearances have included Handel’s Theodora with Berlin Baroque and the Berlin Figural Choir at the Berlin Philharmonie and performances with Vox Luminis at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and at the Bachfest Leipzig. She makes her debut at the Salzburg Festival this summer under the direction of Lionel Meunier in Bach’s Mass in B minor.
Previous highlights have included recitals at the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, the Batenburg Baroque Festival and the Trigonale Festival of Early Music. She made her opera debut as the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. As a sought-after ensemble singer, she continues to work with vocal ensembles such as Collegium Vocale Gent and the chamber choir Cappella Amsterdam.
With the Baroque ensemble Musica Gloria under Nele Vertommen and Beniamino Paganini she participated in the album Georg Österreich’s Resurrected Treasures featuring works by North German composers from around 1700, released by etcetera in 2025.
