Sergey Romanovsky

The young Russian tenor Sergey Romanovsky has quickly established himself as one of the most interesting voices of his generation. He has worked with renowned conductors such as Yuri Bashmet, Daniele Callegari, Ottavio Dantone, Antonino Fogliani, Leo Hussain, Lorin Maazel, Michele Mariotti, Evelino Pidò and Alberto Zedda and with directors such as Robert Carsen, Denis Krief, Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera and Luca Ronconi.
In the 2024/25 season he performs the title role in Mozart’s Mitridate, re di Ponto with Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques at La Scala, Milan, and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and makes his debut at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival. He also returns to the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro for a solo recital.
His recent opera highlights have included Rodolfo (La bohème) at Theater Dortmund, Arrigo (I vespri siciliani) at the Zurich Opera House, Alfredo (La traviata) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Raoul (Les Huguenots) at the Semperoper Dresden, Settimio in Donizetti’s L’esule di Roma with Opera Rara and his house debut as the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) at the Hamburg State Opera. His other important appearances have included Libenskof (Il viaggio a Reims) in Milan and at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles) in Zurich, Gérald (Lakmé) at the Royal Opera House Muscat and Rodolfo at the Dutch National Opera. He has also performed at La Monnaie in Brussels, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Opéra National de Lyon, the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, the Salzburg Landestheater, the Norwegian National Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, the Wexford Festival Opera and the Bregenz Festival.
His recent concert engagements have included Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Mascagni’s Messa di Gloria at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
Sergey Romanovsky has won numerous competitions, among them the 2005 Bella Voce competition in Moscow. He studied at the State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Academy of Choral Art in Moscow and continues to study with Olga Mironova and Dmitry Vdovin.
