Pierre Pitzl
Pierre Pitzl studied guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Walter Würdinger and went on to study lute with Eugen M. Dombois, Hopkinson Smith and Jürgen Hübscher, and viola da gamba with Wieland Kuijken and Christophe Coin.
He performs as a soloist and chamber musician on both viola da gamba and Baroque guitar, and gives concerts with ensembles and conductors such as Al Ayre Español, Frans Brüggen, René Jacobs, Concerto Köln and Concentus Musicus Wien. With his own ensemble Private Musicke, he has performed at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Lucerne Festival, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London and the chamber music hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, and also in Asia. He has made numerous recordings both with his ensemble and as a soloist; these have received many awards, including a Diapason d’Or. Recently, Pierre Pitzl has concentrated primarily on directing projects which focus on Baroque vocal and operatic repertoire.
He teaches viola da gamba at the Music and Arts Private University of Vienna, and Baroque guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
