Pavel Kudinov

Russian bass Pavel Kudinov was born in Dimitrovgrad and studied at the Sobinov Conservatory in Saratov. He made his operatic debut outside Russia as Ruslan in Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila at the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe. This was followed by engagements as Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Selim (Il turco in Italia) and Colline (La bohème) at the Vienna Volksoper, as King Heinrich (Lohengrin) at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, as Alidoro (La Cenerentola) and Escamillo (Carmen) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and as Sarastro at the Teatro Regio in Turin. As Sarastro he has also appeared at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre and at the Leipzig Opera, while his Escamillo has been heard by audiences at the Opera Festival in St. Margarethen.

Pavel Kudinov appears regularly with conductors such as Teodor Currentzis, Christophe Rousset, Paolo Carignani, Axel Kober, Christopher Moulds, Marc Minkowski, George Petrou, Fabio Luisi and Pedro Halffter. His exceptionally wide-ranging repertoire extends from Handel’s leading bass roles to Mozart and from Rossini and Bellini to Verdi, Wagner and Puccini. Recent highlights of his career have included King Heinrich and Procida (Les Vêpres siciliennes) for the Bonn Opera, Gurnemanz (Parsifal) and King Heinrich at the Tyrol Festival in Erl, Ariodate (Serse) and Segeste (Arminio) at the Karlsruhe Handel Festival, Zaccaria (Nabucco) and Pagano (I Lombardi alla prima crociata) at the Heidenheim Opera Festival, the Gold Dealer (Cardillac) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Segeste at the Opera Rara Festival in Kraków, his Hamburg State Opera debut as Consalvo in Handel’s Almira and Vivaldi’s Astolfo (Orlando furioso) and Handel’s Ernando (Publio Cornelio Scipione) and Emireno (Ottone) in concert performances at the Theater an der Wien.

In the wake of his Salzburg Festival debut in Porpora’s Polifemo his plans include Silva (Ernani) and Filippo II (Don Carlo) at the Heidenheim Opera Festival and King Heinrich in a production of Lohengrin by the Salzburg Landestheater in the Felsenreitschule.

Pavel Kudinov’s discography includes Tamerlano and multi-award-winning recordings of Alessandro and Ottone.
