Nacho de Paz

The conductor Nacho de Paz is especially dedicated to music of the 20th and 21st centuries and is an expert in experimental and multimedia repertory.
As a conductor he has already worked with most Spanish and international ensembles specializing in contemporary music, among them Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien, PHACE, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Vertixe Sonora, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Synergy Vocals and Accentus. He has conducted more than 400 world premieres, along with the Spanish premieres of works including Luigi Nono’s Prometeo and Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Gruppen. He regularly appears as a guest conductor with PHACE in Vienna.
His recent and forthcoming projects include collaborations with the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao and the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, and return engagements with ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Recherche and Vertixe Sonora, along with performances at the Teatro Real, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Luxembourg Philharmonie, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Graz Opera, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the Barbican Centre in London and festivals such as the aspekteFESTIVAL in Salzburg, Wien Modern and the Berlin and Salzburg Festivals.
Nacho de Paz has recorded for television channels including ZDF, ARTE, HR, ORF and TVE, and has released 14 CDs and DVDs. He collaborates with ARTE Concert, 2eleven music film and the Europäischen FilmPhilharmonie on the recording and performance of 20th-century silent film scores.
He studied piano and composition and won several international composition prizes. He also specialized in conducting, studying with Arturo Tamayo and Pierre Boulez, and subsequently at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main.
The pandemic led him to resume his work as a composer in 2020, and in 2021 he was awarded the SGAE-CullerArts Composition Prize.
