Münchner Rundfunkorchester

Founded in 1952, the Munich Radio Orchestra has developed into an orchestra with an enormously broad artistic spectrum. Concertante opera performances in the Sunday concerts and the Paradisi gloria series with sacred music of the 20th/21st century are just as much a part of its remit as children’s and youth concerts with an accompanying educational programme, after-work classical music in the Wednesday concerts or the performance of film music.
Ivan Repušić, who has made a name for himself not least in the field of Italian opera and has conducted Verdi’s Luisa Miller, I due Foscari and Attila at the podium of the Munich Radio Orchestra since the 2017/18 season, is the chief conductor. The Munich Radio Orchestra also collaborates with the August Everding Theatre Academy and the Palazzetto Bru Zane Foundation, which is dedicated to the cultivation of French Romantic music. The orchestra’s commitment to promoting young talent includes participation in various competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition.
Finally, a large part of the orchestra’s work with children and young people is based on a three pillar model with teacher training, school visits by the musicians and subsequent concerts. The Munich Radio Orchestra regularly performs at renowned venues such as the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, as well as at festivals such as the Kissinger Sommer and the Festival of Nations. More recently, it has worked with artists such as Diana Damrau, Leo Nucci, Klaus Florian Vogt and Mischa Maisky.
Thanks to its CD recordings, the Munich Radio Orchestra is constantly present on the recording market. The recording of the Croatian Glagolitic Requiem by Igor Kuljerić was honoured with the International Classical Music Award 2021, among others.
