Mikeldi Atxalandabaso

Spanish tenor Mikeldi Atxalandabaso studied in his native Bilbao, making his professional stage debut in 2013 as Ruodi in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell at the Dutch National Opera, repeating the role in both French and Italian at the Teatro Regio in Turin, on a tour of the United States and Canada and in concert performances at the Edinburgh Festival, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and A Coruña.

Other engagements have taken him to the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville. Among the orchestra with which he has appeared are the Basque, Bilbao and Castilla y León  Symphony Orchestras, the Oviedo Philharmonic and the Spanish National Orchestra.

More recently he has been heard as Mime (Das Rheingold), Spoletta (Tosca), Le Remendado (Carmen) and Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte) at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Goro (Madama Butterfly) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), Tybalt (Roméo et Juliette) and the Steersman (Der fliegende Holländer) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Barbarigo (I due Foscari) and Pong (Turandot) at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Narraboth (Salome), Jaquino (Fidelio), Rustighello (Lucrezia Borgia), Bardolfo (Falstaff) and Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the ABAO Bilbao Opera and Jonas (Le Prophète), Beppe (Pagliacci) and Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. He made his Salzburg Easter Festival debut as Spoletta in 2018.

Plans include the Captain (Wozzeck) at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Gran Teatre del Liceu and Beppe and Cochenille/Pitichinaccio/Frantz/Andrès (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the ABAO Bilbao Opera. He will be returning to the Teatro Real in Madrid for Alfonso in the world premiere of Luis de Pablo’s El Abrecartas.
