Michael Spyres

The American tenor Michael Spyres is one of the most outstanding singers of his voice type, and performs at internationally renowned opera houses and concert halls and at leading festivals. His wide-ranging repertory, which consists of 83 parts in 78 separate operas, is documented on numerous CDS and DVDs, and reaches from Baroque works to Mozart and on to the 20th century. He is especially well-known for his performances as a bel canto singer and in French roles.

In the 2022/23 season he appeared in the title role of Idomeneo and as Pollione (Norma) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as Don José (Carmen) at the Paris Opéra and as Jupiter (Semele) at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

His recent album Contra-Tenor, recorded with the Baroque ensemble il Pomo d’Oro under Francesco Corti, is dedicated to the evolution of the tenor voice during the Baroque period.

Alongside his operatic activities, Michael Spyres gives concerts and recitals worldwide. Since 2017 he has been the artistic director of the Ozarks Lyric Opera.
