Clarinettist

Since 2019, the Italian clarinettist Marco Sala has been a senior artist at the Institute for New Music at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He is also principal clarinet with the Orchestra Antonio Vivaldi, bass clarinet with the Salzburg Wind Philharmonic and clarinettist with the New Art and Music Ensemble Salzburg (NAMES).

His especial interests in new music and in the low instruments of the clarinet family (bass clarinet, basset horn and contrabass clarinet) have led him to give solo performances in Austria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, Lithuania, Hungary and South Korea. He has participated in numerous CD recordings for the labels VDE-Gallo Records, Brilliant Classics and Deutsche Grammophon.

Marco Sala was born in Lecce and initially studied clarinet with Carlo Dell’Acqua at the Conservatorio di musica ‘Giuseppe Verdi’ in Como and later with Alois Brandhofer at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he received his Master of Arts degree with distinction, completing his postgraduate studies with Albert Osterhammer and Wenzel Fuchs.
