Ludovic Tézier is internationally renowned as one of the leading baritones. He appears regularly at the world’s greatest opera houses, among them the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opéra, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala, Milan, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, as well as at the Salzburg Festival, the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Bregenz Festival, the Glyndebourne Festival, the Chorégies d’Orange and the Savonlinna Opera Festival. He has worked with conductors such as John Eliot Gardiner, Myung-Whun Chung, Riccardo Muti, Philippe Jordan, Gustavo Dudamel and Riccardo Chailly.

Ludovic Tézier is known for his interpretations of the major Verdi baritone roles such as Macbeth, Rigoletto, Simon Boccanegra, Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Ford (Falstaff), Germont (La traviata), Posa (Don Carlo) and Don Carlo (La forza del destino). His repertoire also includes the title roles in Hamlet, Eugene Onegin and Werther (in the baritone version), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Yeletsky (The Queen of Spades), Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Scarpia (Tosca), Amfortas (Parsifal) and Athanaël (Thaïs).

Recent highlights include his role debut as Iago (Otello) at the Vienna State Opera, Count Luna (Il trovatore) at the Teatro Real, Athanaël in Monte Carlo, Amonasro (Aida), Germont and Athanaël in Paris and Germont at the Arena di Verona.

Appearances in recent seasons have also included Marc-Antoine in Massenet’s Cléopâtre at the Salzburg Festival and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Alphonse (La Favorite) at the Bavarian State Opera, Escamillo (Carmen) and Count Luna in Paris, Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) in Munich, Paris and London, Riccardo (I puritani) and Gérard (Andrea Chénier) at Opera Australia in Sydney, Don Carlo (Ernani) in Monte Carlo and Amonasro in a concert performance of Aida under Antonio Pappano in Rome.

In the 2022/23 season he will appear in a new production of Hamlet and as Don Carlo (La forza del destino) in Paris, as Posa and Rigoletto at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and as Amonasro at Covent Garden.

Ludovic Tézier gives regular song recitals with the pianist Maria Prinz, focussed primarily on French and German repertoire. His work is documented on several CD and DVD recordings, including of Aida (Warner Classics, 2015) and Carmina Burana (live from the Forbidden City, released by Deutsche Grammophon on CD and DVD in 2019). He has also recorded the album Insieme – Opera Duets (Sony Classical, 2022) with Jonas Kaufmann.
