Lluís Vilamajó

The Spanish tenor Lluís Vilamajó began his musical training in the Escolania de Montserrat boys’ choir, and went on to study violin with Xavier Turull and Agustín Léon Ara and singing with Margarita Sabartés and Carmen Martínez at the Conservatori Superior de Música Liceu in Barcelona.

Since 1992 he has been a member of the Capella Reial de Catalunya. He also performs with ensembles such as the Venice Baroque Orchestra, as well as Baroque de Limoges, La Fenice, Les Saqueboutiers and Il Fondamento. Concert tours have taken him to venues in Europe and the USA, and to Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Israel and Mexico.

He has been choir master of the Capella de Música de Santa María del Mar, and of the Cor Infantil and the Cor de Noies de L’Orfeó Català at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona. Together with Lambert Climent and Carlos Mena he was responsible for the Coro Barroco de Andalucía (Seville) and for the Coro Vozes (Zaragoza) linked to Al Ayre Español. During this period, he also founded the programme FONICS, which supports young singers; in addition, he was artistic director of the Coro de la Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and of the Joven Coro de Andalucía.

His collaboration with the Capella Reial de Catalunya and Jordi Savall includes choral rehearsals for choral-symphonic works such as Bach’s Mass in B minor, St Matthew Passion and Magnificat and Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine. He is also responsible for the academies of the Capella Reial de Catalunya, and conducts concerts given by the youth choir Jove Capella Reial de Catalunya.

As a soloist, he has performed works by Bach, Handel’s Messiah and La resurrezione Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Debussy’s L’Enfant prodigue and Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, among others. He has worked with artists such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Salvador Brotons, Pierre Cao, Christophe Coin, Attilio Cremonesi, Paul Dombrecht, Reinhard Goebel, Christopher Hogwood, Monica Huggett, Wieland Kuijken, Ernest Martínez Izquierdo, Andrea Marcon, Nicolas McGegan, Juanjo Mena, Jordi Mora, Andrew Parrott and Manel Valdivieso.

Lluís Vilamajó appears on recordings by the labels Accord, Alia Vox, Astrée Auvidis, Cantus, Discant, Fonti Musicali, Harmonia Mundi and Sony Classical.
