Les Cris de Paris

The ensemble Les Cris de Paris was founded by Geoffroy Jourdain and performs vocal and instrumental music from the early 16th century to the present day. Its artistic approach reflects the richness and diversity of the backgrounds of the artists involved in its productions. The number of participants can vary from three to 80, including composers, arrangers, actors, directors, instrumentalists, dancers, ensemble directors, choral directors, visual artists, sound designers, educators and many more.

Curious and passionate, the ensemble dedicates itself with equal commitment to the rediscovery of forgotten works of early music and to exploring the vocal possibilities in contemporary works. Not only does it give concerts and other performances, but it also presents stage productions featuring a mixture of art forms, such as theatre, dance and readings.

Recent highlights have included performances with the Ensemble intercontemporain at the Fondation Louis Vuitton as part of the exhibition Mark Rothko, and the programme Strana armonia d’amore — which places the most unusual harmonic experiments of the Renaissance alongside music by Francesca Verunelli — at the Auditorium du Louvre and the Berlin Philharmonie. In summer 2026 the ensemble makes its debut at the Salzburg Festival.

Following initial recordings with the labels Ambronay, Aparté and Alpha Classics, Les Cris de Paris and Geoffroy Jourdain began a fruitful collaboration with harmonia mundi. Their recordings include the prize-winning albums Melancholia (2018, Choc de Classica), Passions featuring early music from Venice between 1600 and 1750 (2019, Diapason d’Or and Choc de Classica) and Berio to Sing with Lucile Richardot (2021, Choc de Classica and the fff award from Télérama). In 2022 they released a disc of sacred music by Heinrich Schütz to mark the 350th anniversary of his death, also broadcasting the programme live from the Église Saint-Jacques in Reims with arte. Together with Les Siècles and François-Xavier Roth they released an album to mark the 100th anniversary of Debussy’s death, featuring some of his key works. Most recently they released the recording Strana armonia d’amore (2025), which was named Classica’s Choice.
