Leonhard Winkler

Sculptor

The German sculptor Leonhard Winkler was born in Ebersberg in 1997. He initially completed an apprenticeship in Glonn as a model maker specializing in bodywork and production, and worked in the field of measurement technology. He went on to train as a wood sculptor at the Vocational School for Woodcarving Trade in Munich, where this year he will begin his training as a master craftsman.

His works have been presented at annual exhibitions and have won various awards. Alongside his activity as a carpenter, in his own projects Leonhard Winkler explores many materials and techniques, such as stonemasonry and metal engraving.

During his training he had an Erasmus internship at the Salzburg Marionette Theatre, where his work as a sculptor included creating the heads of the figures for the production Romeo und Julia (Romeo and Juliet, 2024). For the same venue, in close collaboration with Georg Baselitz, he has recreated all the heads and bodies of the puppets for L‘Histoire du soldat, performed at the 2025 Salzburg Festival.
