Leander Carlier

Baritone

The Belgian baritone Leander Carlier studied at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. In 2022 he was selected to join the MM Academy of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, where he has performed Court Bailiff in Saint-Saëns’ Henry VIII, several parts in Shostakovich’s The Nose, Grandfather Clock/Cat in a concert performance of Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges and Bernardino in Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini. Future appearances at La Monnaie will include Paris (Roméo et Juliette), Second Apprentice (Wozzeck) and Wig-Maker (Ariadne auf Naxos).

During the 2024/25 season Leander Carlier was a member of the Opera Studio of the Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, where he appeared as Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), and as Junius and Guglielmo in the production De Apenrots, featuring scenes from Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia and Mozart’s Così fan tutte.

With the Opera Vlaanderen he has sung Second Nazarene (Salome) and Moralès (Carmen), and appeared as Second Apprentice on a tour to China. He has also sung at the Opéra national Montpellier in Keyvan Chemirani’s Negar.

In 2023 Leander Carlier won the Grand Prix Jeune Talent at the Concours Opéra Jeunes Espoirs Raymond Duffaut in Avignon. He has also won first prize in the Dutch television company NPO’s singing competition ARIA, at the international Triomphe de l’Art music competition in Brussels and at the Belgian singing competition Bell’Arte.
