Katrin Nottrodt, born in Eckernförde near Kiel in 1969, worked on theatre projects in Italy, Paris, Hamburg and Stuttgart after graduating from high school. She then studied stage design with Wilfried Minks at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste (Hamburg) and with Karl-Ernst Herrmann at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (Munich). She has been designing her own stage sets since 1992: initially mainly at Kampnagel in Hamburg, later at TAT Frankfurt as part of Experimente 7, at Schauspiel Hannover, at Burgtheater Wien, for the Ruhrfestspiele in Recklinghausen, in 2006 also once for the Riksteatern in Stockholm and at Thalia Theatre Hamburg. Alongside director Ute Rauwald, Nicolas Stemann, whom she met while still a student, is a close artistic partner. They have been working together continuously since 1995, producing productions such as “Hamlet” at the schauspielhannover, Jelinek’s “Das Werk” or “Ulrike Maria Stuart”, Dostoyevsky’s “The Brothers Karamazov” and “The Merchant’s Contracts”. Nottrodt and Stemann will continue their work together in Zurich and will return to the Thalia Theatre together in the 2024/2025 season.
