Juliette Mars

French mezzo-soprano Juliette Mars appears regularly at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, where she made her debut as Margret (Wozzeck) in 2017, before returning as Natalia in a new production of Leoncavallo’s Zazà, Puck in Weber’s Oberon, the Turnspit (Rusalka), Irmentraut (Der Waffenschmied), Lisette in Tobias Picker’s Thérèse Raquin and Barena (Jenůfa). For the Vienna Chamber Opera she sang Brangäne in Tristan Experiment, an adaptation of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde directed by Günther Groissböck in 2021.

Between 2007 and 2016 Juliette Mars was a member of the Vienna State Opera, where she performed over forty-five roles, including Smeton (Anna Bolena), Meg Page (Falstaff), Siébel (Faust), the Marquise de Berkenfield (La Fille du régiment), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Stéphano (Roméo et Juliette), Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Floßhilde (Der Ring des Nibelungen) and the Turnspit. She made her debut at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse in Wagner’s Parsifal in 2020, also giving a recital of songs and arias with the pianist Christophe Larrieu.

Among Juliette Mars’s other engagements have been the Muse / Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the Vienna Volksoper and at the Opéra de Nice, the title role in Carmen at the Opéra en plein air festival, the Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and Siébel at the Théâtre des ChampsÉlysées, Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the Opéra de Marseille, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Laxenburg Palace Theatre and the title role in the world premiere of Bruno Strobl’s Hemma – Eine Weibspassion at the Carinthian Summer Festival.

Among the conductors with whom Juliette Mars has worked are Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser-Möst, Fabio Luisi, Bertrand de Billy, Peter Schneider, Bruno Campanella, Simon Rattle, Graeme Jenkins, Michael Güttler, Alain Altinoglu, Constantinos Carydis, Friedrich Haider, Frédéric Chaslin, Ivor Bolton, Patrick Lange, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Jesús López Cobos, Evelino Pidò, Simone Young, Ingo Metzmacher and Leo Hussain.
