Jonathan Tetelman

Jonathan Tetelman was born in Chile, raised in New Jersey, and studied at Mannes College’s New School of Music and at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. In the 2022/23 season he made his long-awaited debut at the San Francisco Opera as Alfredo (La traviata) and also made his debut at the Houston Grand Opera as Cavaradossi (Tosca), one of his signature roles. In Europe he has sung Rodolfo (La bohème) at the Semperoper Dresden, Cavaradossi and Paolo in Riccardo Zandonai’s Francesca da Rimini at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Loris Ipanoff (Fedora) at the Ópera de Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. On the concert stage Jonathan Tetelman has appeared with the Houston Symphony Orchestra in Verdi’s Requiem. In 2023 he sang at the Tivoli Festival in Copenhagen with Sylvia d’Eramo and has appeared in concerts in cities including Brussels and Paris with the soprano Angela Gheorghiu.
In the 2021/22 season Jonthan Tetelman appeared as Jacopo Foscari alongside Plácido Domingo in Verdi’s I due Foscari at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and as Loris Ipanoff at the Frankfurt Opera, and made his house debut at the Theater an der Wien in a new production of Tosca. He also sang in concert performances of La bohème at the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming.
In the 2019/20 season Jonathan Tetelman made a series of acclaimed house and role debuts: he sang Cavaradossi at the Teatro Regio in Turin, at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, at the Opéra de Lille and at the Semperoper, as well as Rodolfo at the Komische Oper Berlin, the English National Opera in London, the Fujian Grand Theatre in China and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where he was also heard as Alfredo. In addition he sang Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) at the Opéra National de Montpellier and at the Semperoper. As a concert singer, he has made a name for himself with performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and the Requiems by Verdi and Dvořák, among others. He sang Don José (Carmen) alongside Elīna Garanča on a concert tour through Eastern Europe and gave concerts with her in Austria, Spain and Latvia.
Since 2022 Jonathan Tetelman has been an exclusive artist with Deutsche Grammophon.
