Johannes Wilhelm was born in Austria and studied piano, chamber music and organ at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Since 2011 he has taught a piano class at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, in 2016 he received his artistic habilitation (university professorial qualification) and in autumn 2022 he was appointed to head the pre-college course in the keyboard department, for the promotion of outstanding young musicians.
He has performed in numerous European countries and in Asia, Africa and the USA as a chamber musician (in various formations) and as a song accompanist.
At the Salzburg Festival, Johannes Wilhelm has worked as a pianist, organist and répétiteur with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the Camerata Salzburg and the Munich Radio Orchestra, and with choirs such as the Monteverdi Choir, Collegium Vocale Gent, Il Canto di Orfeo and the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus.
He has also been engaged at the Salzburg Festival for many years as a répétiteur for opera productions and for soloists’ rehearsals, and has worked with leading conductors and renowned singers.
Johannes Wilhelm has been awarded multiple prizes, among them a research grant and an honorary award from the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.
