The countertenor Jake Ingbar was born in Minneapolis, studied at the Juilliard School in New York and at Rice University in Houston, and completed numerous renowned training programmes in the USA and the UK.

Recent engagements have included the Witch of Endor in Claus Guth’s production of Handel’s Saul at the Semperoper Dresden, Ottone (L’incoronazione di Poppea) with Cappella Mediterranea under Mónica Pustilnik at the Nederlandse Reisopera and Narciso in Barrie Kosky’s production of Agrippina under Ottavio Dantone at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. Following his Salzburg Festival debut in Giulio Cesare he will perform the role of Armindo in Handel’s Partenope at the English National Opera.

In 2024 he appeared in New York with the instrumental ensemble New York Baroque Incorporated in choreographer Doug Varone’s dance piece To My Arms/Restore, which features works by Handel, sang four songs from Hans Thomalla’s opera Dark Spring as part of a portrait concert in honour of the composer at the National Theatre in Mannheim, and performed works by Caccini in Kristen Wicklund’s dance piece Tu me manques in Amsterdam. Other engagements included Leonardo in Gabriela Lena Frank’s El último sueño de Frida y Diego at the San Francisco Opera and Nireno (Giulio Cesare) in Amsterdam.

As a participant in the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program his appearances in productions at the Los Angeles Opera included Mercurio in an English-language production of Landi’s La morte d’Orfeo, Colin in Joseph Bologne’s L’Amant anonyme and Carla Lucero’s Las tres mujeres de Jerusalén.

He was a member of the Académie of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, where he appeared in Pergolesi’s La conversione e morte di San Guglielmo with Les Talens Lyriques under Christophe Rousset. He has worked with conductors including James Conlon, Stephen Stubbs, Gary Thur Wedow, David Stern and Petr Kotik.

In 2024 Jake Ingbar was a finalist in the Cesti Competition at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.
