Dramatic tenor Issachah Savage won not only the first prize at the Seattle International Wagner Competition in 2014, he also took away the orchestra prize and the audience prize. In 2015 he was acclaimed as Siegmund (Die Walküre) under Johannes Debus at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Don Riccardo (Ernani) under James Levine and sang Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos) for the Seattle Opera. Recent engagements have included Narraboth (Salome) under James Conlon for his Los Angeles Opera debut, Leader is Kurt Weill’s Lost in the Stars with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, his Houston Grand Opera debut as Radamès (Aida) alongside Liudmyla Monastyrksa and Dolora Zajick, his European debut as Bacchus at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and Siegmund under Paul Daniel at the Opéra National de Bordeaux.
As a concert artist Issachah Savage has been heard in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel, the National Symphony Orchestra under Gianandrea Noseda, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine under Paul Daniel and the Utah Symphony Orchestra as well as Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He has also sung Radamès under Robert Spano at the Aspen Music Festival and with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Jacques Lacombe at the Tanglewood Festival. Plans for 2019/20 include Beethoven’s Ninth with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Verdi’s Requiem with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
Issachah Savage participated in the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program and sang ‘Mein lieber Schwan’ from Lohengrin at the Grand Finale Concert. His interpretation of Otello in the final act of Verdi’s opera was enthusiastically received at a Schwabacher Summer Concert. He possesses a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Morgan State University and a master’s degree in opera voice performance from the Catholic University of America.
