Gregor Hinterreiter

The clarinettist Gregor Hinterreiter was born in 1988 in Linz and began his clarinet training at the age of ten under Markus Steingruber at the music school in Thalheim. He went on to study in Johann Hindler’s class at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He passed his diploma exam in 2014 with distinction. As a three-time winner of the national competition Prima la Musica, where he also received several special prizes, he was invited to perform in the prize-winners’ concert.

He has performed as a solo and chamber musician in Austria and elsewhere, including at the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Brucknerhaus in Linz. In autumn 2009 Gregor Hinterreiter was first engaged to perform in the stage orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. A successful audition for the Vienna Philharmonic followed in 2015. Since 2017 he has held the position of principal clarinet there. In autumn 2019 Gregor Hinterreiter was accepted into the Association of the Vienna Philharmonic.
