Gleb Filshtinsky was born in St Petersburg, where he studied stage design at the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts.
Since 1990 he has been active as a lighting and set designer and director of shows and has already worked on more than 400 staged productions, including of theatre, opera and ballet, as well as large-scale multimedia shows. Since 2012 he has also worked as an art director and designer for various museum projects.
Gleb Filshtinsky has won many awards, including the renowned Russian theatre prize the Golden Mask, (multiple times), along with national theatre prizes in Estonia and Latvia.
Houses for which he has worked as a lighting designer include the Mariinsky Theatre, the State Academic Maly Theatre, the Alexandrinsky Theatre, the G. A. Tostonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre and the Boris Eifman Ballet in St Petersburg, the Bolshoi Theatre and the Academic Art Theatre in Moscow, the Gesher Theatre in Tel Aviv, the Opéra and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Opéra national de Lyon, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Zurich Opera House, the Berlin State Opera and Berlin Schaubühne, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Hamburg State Opera, the Vienna Burgtheater, the Salzburg Festival, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, La Scala, Milan, the Greek National Opera, the English National Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
