Ferran Mitjans

The Catalan tenor Ferran Mitjans began to specialize in Baroque repertory after winning the Salvat Bach scholarship in 2018. Since then, he has worked with renowned European ensembles such as the Collegium Vocale Gent under Philippe Herreweghe, La Capella Reial de Catalunya under Jordi Savall and Lluís Vilamajó, the Cor Cererols with Marc Díaz, the Ensemble O Vos Omnes with Xavier Pastrana and La Grande Chapelle with Albert Recasens.

He works with Jordi Savall both as a choral singer and as a soloist. Their collaborations have included Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St John Passion, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C minor, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis and Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri. He has also participated in many of Savall’s recordings. Highlights of their work together in 2025/26 have included performances at the Auditori in Barcelona, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. This summer he returns with Savall to the Salzburg Festival.

Ferran Mitjans is a founding member of the Cor Cererols and of the Ensemble Cristóbal de Morales, both vocal ensembles focused on the rediscovery and dissemination of Iberian Renaissance repertory and the musical tradition of Montserrat.

He began his musical training in 2005 at the Escolania de Montserrat, where he appeared as a soloist and took part in recordings of works by P. Miquel López, the Christmas CD El nostre Nadal and Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Officium hebdomadae sanctae.

Ferran Mitjans initially studied physiotherapy, then singing at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, receiving instruction from Marta Mathéu and Anna Ollet. He also participated in masterclasses with the countertenor Carlos Mena and the baritone Marcel Boone. In 2011 he continued his training at the Cor Jove de l’Orfeó Català, appearing as a soloist in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (2013 and 2015), Bach’s Magnificat (2015) and Handel’s Messiah (2016 and 2017).
