Eurudike de Beul

Eurudike De Beul is a singer, performer, director and sound designer.

After graduating with a degree in biomedical sciences, she studied singing at the conservatories of Liège and Mons with José van Dam, Greta De Reyghere and Marianne Pousseur. She continued her training with Ute Trekel-Burckhardt in Berlin and in masterclasses with Mark Deller, Michael Chance and Zeger Vandersteene. Her voice evolved from a light soprano ideal for Baroque repertory to a mezzo-soprano. She sang numerous major roles, and also performed in the Bayreuth Festival Chorus.

At the age of 30, Eurudike De Beul found her first true calling in Alain Platel’s company Les Ballets C de la B. She went on to work with directors, companies and ensembles including Theu Boermans (De Theatercompagnie), David Miller, Judith Vindevogel (Walpurgis), François de Carpentries, Dagmar Pischel, Cathy Boyd (Theatre Cryptic), Josse De Pauw, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, Maribeth Diggle, Wouter Deltour, Kris Verdonck, Zefiro Torna, Toneelhuis (Antwerp), Muziektheater Transparant, LOD Muziektheater, Theater Arsenaal, Gökhan Girginol, Dahlia Pessemiers, Veroline Vanderbeek, Carly Wijs, Nadar Ensemble, Pieter Matthynssens and Graindelavoix. Theatres and festivals where she has appeared include the Berliner Festspiele, the Salzburg Festival, the Thüringer Bachwochen, Opera Vlaanderen, the Grand Théâtre de Genève and Theatre Basel.

In 2000 St Kilda, a project created in collaboration with Nathalie de Briey, was selected for the British initiative Year of the Artist. In the same year she became a founding member of the collective Peeping Tom, with which she has created 15 productions. She has appeared with Peeping Tom in around 800 performances worldwide, and she also designed the soundscapes for À Louer, Vader, The Land, Triptych and Jean-Marc.

With her own non-profit organization KoudVuur, she created experimental performances, solos and compositions / soundscapes as artist in residence for Walpurgis in Mortsel and CC Sint-Niklaas, focussing on the voice and the full range of its expressive potential.

Eurudike De Beul can be heard as a soloist on several CD albums, and teaches at the Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound in Brussels and at the Academy of Sint-Pieters Woluwe. She also works as a vocal coach and gives international workshops in Dynamic Voice Coaching.
