Biography

Esther Abdelghani

Esther Abdelghani, born in Augsburg in 1994, works as a freelance stage designer and artist. She studied stage design and costume at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Katrin Brack from 2017 to 2022. During this time, she designed several stage projects at the Theaterakademie August Everding. She created Nur wer mitspielt (2019) and Kalokagathia (2020) with director Lukas Kretzschmar and designed the stage space for the opera Richard III for Maria Chagina in 2022.
Her collaboration with Benjamin Truong also began during her studies with Die Macht der Gewohnheit (2018) and has continued ever since. Between 2020 and 2022, she designed the stage and costumes for Truong’s productions Palast des Lächelns and Der kleine Horrorladen at the Deutsches Theater in Munich. The two are currently working on a play development for the HochX in Munich, which will premiere in the fall.
Esther Abdelghani is part of Choreoloop, a platform for contemporary dance in Augsburg. For the choreographies Sentilo (2021, H2 Zentrum für Gegenwartskunst) and Nimm Platz! (2022, Staatstheater Augsburg) by Diana Wöhrl, she created room installations and costumes.

Since 2023, she has been deepening her artistic practice by studying in the class for performance at the AdBK Munich with Alexandra Pirici. With performative works such as Adapt (2022, Biennale Lindau), Can You Take? (2022, DG Kunstraum München) and Die Unmöglichkeit der Bewegung (2023, Galerie im Ganserhaus in Wasserburg), she explores the interweaving of bodies, spaces and discourses.
