Elke Janssens studied musicology and theatre studies at Ghent University and has been artistic coordinator of Needcompany since 2003. As the company’s dramaturg, she has supported the work of Jan Lauwers, Grace Ellen Barkey and Maarten Seghers for several years, working on performances, exhibitions, concerts and publications that were presented worldwide. In 2006 she joined OHNO COOPERATION, Needcompany’s splinter group. Elke Janssens served as dramaturg for L’incoronazione di Poppea, conducted by William Christie and directed by Jan Lauwers, at the Salzburg Festival in 2018. This production was also shown at the Vienna State Opera in May 2021, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado.
