Ekkehard Windrich

Conductor

Ekkehard Windrich came to conducting after work in another field. He studied violin and from early on specialized in the interpretation of contemporary solo and chamber music. His activities as concert master of the Ensemble KNM Berlin, œnm in Salzburg and the ensemble aisthesis led him to perform contemporary music at major concert halls and recording studios.

He also pursued his passionate interest in electroacoustic music, and completed a master’s degree at the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, graduating with distinction.

His long-standing collaboration with Walter Nußbaum and KlangForum Heidelberg, which focuses on promoting contemporary music, has led him to explore the new and often unfamiliar in music history, in order to come to a clearer understanding of contemporary music. Since 2021 Ekkehard Windrich has been one of the artistic directors of KlangForum Heidelberg – which unites the two ensembles Schola Heidelberg and ensemble aisthesis – and since 2025 he has been KlangForum Heidelberg’s conductor.
