The Italian baritone Davide Luciano comes from Benevento and studied with Gioacchino Zarrelli, with whom he continues to work. He has performed at renowned opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala, Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. He made his Salzburg Festival debut in 2021 as Don Giovanni.
In the 2025/26 season Davide Luciano appeared as Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) in Zurich and as Marcello (La bohème) at the Metropolitan Opera. Following his return to the Salzburg Festival as Escamillo, his engagements in the 2026/27 season include Escamillo in Valencia, Scarpia (Tosca) at the Berlin State Opera, Marcello in Munich, Zurga (Les Pêcheurs de perles) in Vienna and Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) and Don Giovanni at the Paris Opéra.
His recent appearances have also included Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Don Giovanni, Belcore, Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) and Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) in Vienna, Sharpless and Rossini’s Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera, Count Almaviva in Liège, Don Giovanni at the 2024 Salzburg Festival and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Belcore at La Scala, Milan, and in Monte Carlo, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and Count Almaviva at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Marcello in Mahón (Menorca) and Monte Carlo, Malatesta in Florence, Rossini’s Figaro in a production by Rome’s Teatro dell’Opera at the Circus Maximus, Ford (Falstaff) in Valencia and Silvio (Pagliacci) and Riccardo (I puritani) in Naples. In 2018 he made his debut at the Met as Belcore, returning there in 2023 as Marcello.
Other past engagements have included Mozart’s Figaro in Madrid and at the Glyndebourne Festival, Leporello (Don Giovanni) in Oslo and São Paulo, Rossini’s Figaro in Seville, Dresden, at the Terme di Caracalla in Rome and in Venice, Malatesta in Venice, Guglielmo in Oslo, Don Alvaro (Il viaggio a Reims) in Copenhagen, Silvio in São Paulo, Gernando in Jommelli’s L’isola disabitata in Naples and Pacuvio (La pietra del paragone) at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
As a member of the Accademia Rossiniana, Davide Luciano sang Don Profondo (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in 2014, and has returned there several times, including as Figaro.
He has sung many roles for the Deutsche Oper Berlin, including Don Giovanni, Rossini’s Figaro, Marcello, Belcore, Cecil (Maria Stuarda) and Don Profondo, along with Nottingham in concert performances of Roberto Devereux.
