Claudia de Serpa Soares, born in Lisbon, is a dancer, performer and choreographer. She trained at the Conservatory and the Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon and at the Centre national de danse contemporaine in Angers. She danced with Iztok Kovač (Slovenia) and Paulo Ribeiro (Lisbon) before joining the dance ensemble of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin in 1999 under the artistic direction of Sasha Waltz, with whose company Sasha Waltz & Guests she has worked as a dancer and rehearsal director ever since.
Claudia de Serpa Soares has worked with many visual, performative and musical artists, including Lilo Baur, Daniel Pennac, Julian Rosefeldt, Jonathan Bepler, Junko Wada, Ronald Kukulies, Grayson Millwood, Nuno Cera, Eve Sussman and Rufus Corporation, Jochen Sandig and Rundfunkchor Berlin, Companhia Útero and the artist duo knowbotiq. At the Opéra de Dijon she assisted and choreographed for Lilo Baur and Nicola Raab.
Claudia de Serpa Soares’ performance installation More Up A Tree, a collaboration with artist Eve Sussman and percussionist Jim White, premiered at the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg and was shown at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), New York, and at the Melbourne Festival.
