Christoph Brunner

hristoph Brunner received his first musical training in the Regensburger Domspatzen. He went on to study literature, and subsequently studied singing with Dagmar Schellenberger and at the University of the Arts in Berlin with Albert Pesendorfer. During his studies he appeared as a guest artist at the Berlin State Opera, and sang repeatedly at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Berlin Konzerthaus.

Since then he has performed at renowned concert halls such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and has accepted invitations to appear at international festivals, among them the Salzburg Festival, the Ruhrtriennale, Wien Modern, the Vienna Festwochen, the Munich Biennale, the RESIS Festival in La Coruña, the Festival Neue Musik Rümmligen and MaerzMusik at the Berlin Festival.

Christoph Brunner is especially drawn to contemporary music theatre and vocal music, and in this capacity often works with soloistic ensembles such as Cantando Admont and Phønix16. His repertory as a baritone includes Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s radio oratorio Des Menschen Unterhaltsprozess gegen Gott, Claude Vivier’s Kopernikus, Chaya Czernowin’s Heart Chamber, Joe Pitt in Peter Eötvös’s Angels in America and the title role in Iván Fischer’s children’s opera Der Grüffelo (The Gruffalo).

He is also passionate about German art song and the major oratorio parts for his voice type, which he has performed with ensembles including lautten compagney Berlin and the Baroque ensemble Concerto München.
