Cantatorium

Cantatorium is a Munich ensemble that specializes in Gregorian chant. It was founded by Father Robert Mehlhart OP in 2021 as an offshoot of the choir of the Court and Collegiate Church of St Cajetan (the Theatine Church), the successor to the Royal Court Choir whose roots at the Munich court go back to 1482. Today one can regularly hear the choir under the direction of Father Robert Mehlhart on Sunday during the main service at the Theatine Church.

The members of Cantatorium are professional singers, who work in many genres from jazz to opera. They perform Gregorian chant using the oldest surviving manuscripts, some of which are more than a thousand years old. The ensemble appears together with the jazz pianist Tim Allhoff on the CD Meditations. Chant & Piano for Sony Classical; this recording was placed on the Spiegel bestseller list in 2023.
