The pianist Benjamin Kobler is a passionate advocate of contemporary music, and a sought-after interpreter of the works of Helmut Lachenmann, György Ligeti, Olivier Messiaen and Karlheinz Stockhausen. His concert activity has taken him to the great concert halls of Europe, and to the USA, Asia and South America. He has worked with renowned orchestras and with leading conductors such as Myung-whun Chung, Vladimir Jurowski and Simon Rattle.

Since 2007 he has been a permanent member of Ensemble Musikfabrik. He also likes to commission new works for solo piano: forthcoming premieres will include a new Étude by Unsuk Chin and the piano piece Nuss by Enno Poppe.

Benjamin Kobler worked intensively for ten years with Karlheinz Stockhausen and is the dedicatee of his final piano cycle, Natürliche Dauern. His most influential teachers were Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Peter Eötvös and Carmen Piazzini, with whom he studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and the Paris Conservatoire.

Alongside his teaching activities at the International Stockhausen Courses, Benjamin Kobler is a lecturer in contemporary piano music at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
