Benedikt Dinkhauser was born in Innsbruck, and during his schooldays played in various well-known Austrian youth orchestras, such as the Wiener Jeunesse Orchestra, the Junge Bundesländer Philharmonie and the Attersee Institute Orchestra, and won first prize at the national competition Prima la Musica in 1997. He trained as a bassoonist at the Vienna Conservatory (today the Music and Arts Private University of Vienna) and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
Since 2002 Benedikt Dinkhauser has been a bassoonist in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, and since 2005 he has been a member of the Vienna Philharmonic.
Along with his orchestral activities Benedikt Dinkhauser is active as a soloist and chamber musician. He is also a passionate photographer, and takes official pictures for the Vienna Philharmonic among others.
Benedikt Dinkhauser has given masterclasses at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music in New York, and at the Tokyo College of Music.
