Ballett Dortmund combines the tradition of European dance art with the artistic handwriting of international contemporary choreographers as an independent division of the Dortmund Theatre. The choreographic work of ballet director Xin Peng Wang focusses on his own productions of visually stunning story ballets on material from world literature that has not yet been explored in dance. Since he took up his post in Dortmund in 2003, he has continuously created acclaimed works such as Tales from the Vienna Woods, Faust, War and Peace, Magic Mountain, Dream of the Red Chamber and The Divine Comedy. The close collaboration with choreographers such as Akram Khan, Douglas Lee, Alexander Ekman, Wayne McGregor, Edward Clug and David Dawson has also characterised the company in the recent past and demonstrates the particular versatility of the ensemble. Ballett Dortmund is celebrating international success with Alexander Ekman’s EIN MITTSOMMERNACHTSTRAUM, an award-winning celebration of the art of dance and life that has earned the greatest enthusiasm from the specialised press and audiences everywhere.
