The French mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel became known to a wide audience when she sang the Marseillaise as part of the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In 2023 she took part in the Academy of the non-profit organization Opera for Peace, where she participated in masterclasses with Sumi Jo, Thomas Hampson, Brian Jagde, Étienne Dupuis and Ailyn Pérez. She has been selected as an Emerging Artist for Opera for Peace for the 2024/25 season.

Axelle Saint-Cirel studied at the Paris Conservatoire and has received numerous awards, among them the Prix Génération Opéra at the Concours International de Chant de Marmande 2024, and the Prix Voix des Outre-mer in 2023. Recent engagements have included Maman in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the title role of Carmen intime – a production of the Opéra Grand Avignon based on Bizet’s Carmen – and Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) on a tour through the French overseas territories. In April 2024 she appeared in a concert of Lieder and Mozart arias at Paris’s Salle Gaveau alongside Sabine Devieilhe.
