British mezzo-soprano Anita Monserrat joined the Wiener Staatsoper Opernstudio for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons as Hildegard Zadek Scholar. Winner of 1st prize at the 2024 SWR Junge Opernstars, 2nd prize at Neue Stimmen 2024, and a semi-finalist in Plácido Domingo’s Operalia, she was also a finalist in the 2023 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and 2022 Handel Singing Competition. She was also a member of the Young Singer’s Project at the 2023 Salzburger Festspiele, performing in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, and took part in the 2024 International Meistersinger Akademie (IMA).

Recent highlights include Christmas in Vienna at the Wiener Konzerthaus and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Other performances include Bach’s St John Passion at the Barbican, Handel’s Messiah at the London Handel Festival, and Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Academy of Ancient Music. Anita has taken part in many public masterclasses with artists such as KS Neil Shicoff, Malcolm Martineau, Catherine Wyn-Rogers and Mary Bevan.

Prior to joining the Opernstudio, Anita studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with KS Michael Schade and Laura Aikin. Whilst at the MdW, Anita’s roles included ‘Hänsel’ in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, and the principal role in Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine.  During her studies in the UK, Anita held a choral scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge, where she read Music. She then studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, under the tutelage of Alex Ashworth and Catherine Wyn-Rogers.

In addition to her recent performances at the Wiener Staatsoper Opernstudio as Laura (Iolanta), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), and Mercedes (Carmen), Anita looks forward to her debuts at Oper Koln as Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and at the Salzburg Festival as Mercedes (Carmen). On the concert stage, Anita will also appear as a soloist in the Musikverein’s performance of Handel’s Messiah, Tippet’s Child of Our Time with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and in a Gala concert at Carnegie Hall with the Wintour Group International.
