Angela Brower

US mezzo-soprano Angela Brower studied at Arizona State and Indiana Universities. Her career began at the Glimmerglass Opera Young American Artists Program in 2008.
She was a member of the ensemble at the Bavarian State Opera from 2010 to 2016. While in Munich, her appearances included Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Annio and Sesto (La clemenza di Tito), the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), for which she won the prestigious Munich Festival Prize in 2009, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Charlotte (Werther) and Adalgisa (Norma).

Her engagements during the 2020/21 season include Dorabella and a gala at the Bavarian State Opera, Annio at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and her debut with the Norwegian National Opera as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia).

During the 2019/20 season she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, as Octavian, as well as making her Dutch National Opera debut as Dorabella. Other appearances included Cherubino at the Mozartwoche Festival in Salzburg and the title role in Cendrillon in Klagenfurt.

Other recent performances include Annio at the Paris Opéra, Dorabella at Covent Garden, the Salzburg Festival and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Composer at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Glyndebourne, Idamante (Idomeneo) at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Rosina at the Vienna State Opera, Tamiri (Il re pastore) at the Lucerne Festival, Siébel (Faust) in Baden-Baden and Nicklausse and Cherubino at San Francisco Opera.

Angela Brower’s concert appearances include the Mozart Requiem with the Vienna Philharmonic, Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder with the Tyrol Symphony Orchestra and works by Chausson and Ravel with the NDR Symphony Orchestra.

Her discography includes Deutsche Grammophon’s acclaimed recordings of Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
