Andreas Schett
Andreas Schett was born in 1971 in Lienz, grew up in Innervillgraten and now lives in Vienna and Innsbruck.
He is co-founder, trumpeter, composer and director of Musicbanda Franui, which was founded in 1993. The ensemble sees itself as a ‘hub between classical music, folk music, jazz and contemporary chamber music‘, and loves to blur the boundaries between interpretation, improvisation and new composition. Composition commissions, theatre and music theatre productions and guest appearances have taken the ensemble to renowned opera houses, concert venues and European festivals, including the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Schauspiel Zurich, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Volkstheater and Burgtheater in Vienna and the Holland Festival, the Klarafestival in Brussels and the Salzburg Festival.
Recent projects with Musicbanda Franui have included performances with Florian Boesch at the Brucknerhaus Linz and the Festspielhaus Erl, the arrangement Das Lied vom Rand der Welt oder ‘Der Zigeunerbaron’ for the Johann Strauss Cultural Year 2025 in Vienna, and, together with Nicholas Ofczarek, the musical adaptation of Thomas Bernhard’s Holzfällen at the Burgtheater in Vienna. In June 2024 Andreas Schett and Musicbanda Franui appeared at the Schauspiel Stuttgart in the world premiere of the hybrid operetta Hotel Savoy, based on the novel by Joseph Roth.
In 1996, Andreas Schett founded the advertising agency Circus — Büro for communication and design. Since 2002 he has also been the publisher and editor-in-chief of the cultural magazine Quart, and since 2006 he has been the artistic director and owner of the record label col legno.
As a curator, he has also been in charge of the annual Gemischter Satz Festival at the Vienna Konzerthaus since 2015, and since 2024 he has been in charge of the Tyrolean Festival Erl’s autumn format, Ausklang.
