Andrea Schönhofer

Andrea Schönhofer studied Modern German Literature, Theater Studies and Art History at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and at the University of Vienna, where she graduated with a thesis on Thomas Bernhard’s dramatic works. From 2008 to 2013, she was a dramaturge at the Bavarian State Opera. Since 2014, she has been working as a freelance dramaturge on numerous projects in the independent scene, but also at theaters such as the Salzburg State Theatre. She has worked with Calixto Bieito, Dmitri Tcherniakov, Amélie Niermeyer, La Fura dels Baus, Christof Loy, Schorsch Kamerun, Lucia Ronchetti and Saar Magal, among others.
She has also been active in cultural education since 2020. She has held teaching positions at the Thomas Bernhard Institute of the Mozarteum University Salzburg, the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and the August Everding Theater Academy, where she currently teaches on the master’s degree course in music theatre/opera singing.
She has already worked with Giulia Giammona on the world premiere of the short opera Salz ist mein Erbe by Lithuanian composer Raimonda Žiūkaitė. Andrea Schönhofer is engaged for the first time at the Salzburg Festival for the new production Die Kluge.
