Andrea Schönhofer studied modern German literature, theatre and art history in Munich and Vienna. From 2008 to 2013 she was a dramaturg at the Bavarian State Opera. Since then she has worked freelance on projects on the independent theatre scene and at venues including the Salzburg Landestheater. She has collaborated with directors including Calixto Bieito, Dmitri Tcherniakov, Amélie Niermeyer, Christof Loy, La Fura dels Baus, Schorsch Kamerun, Lucia Ronchetti and Saar Magal.
Since 2020 she has also been involved in cultural education. She has held teaching positions at institutions including the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, the University of Music and Theatre in Munich and the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding, where she currently teaches on the master’s degree programme in music theatre and opera singing.
She first worked at the Salzburg Festival in 2024 on the children’s opera Die Kluge. In 2026 she returns as the dramaturg for the project King Arthur Junior.
