The Belarusian bass Alexander Roslavets studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory. From 2014 to 2016 he was a member of the Young Artists Opera Programme of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and made his debut as Marchese d’Obigny (La traviata) under Tugan Sokhiev. He also performed in Peter Stein’s production of La Damnation de Faust and in the world premiere of Sergei Slonimsky’s King Lear at the Moscow Conservatory under Vladimir Jurowski.

Since 2016/17 he has been an ensemble member of the Hamburg State Opera, where he has sung roles such as Monterone (Rigoletto), Ferrando (Il trovatore), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Colline (La bohème), Frère Bernard (Saint François d’Assise), Fafner (Das Rheingold and Siegfried) and Boris Ismailov (Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District), and in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem.

In the 2024/25 season he sang Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Talbot (Maria Stuarda) and Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin) in Hamburg and in Prokofiev’s Ivan the Terrible under Daniele Rustioni at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. In summer 2025 he makes his debut at the Salzburg Festival, and in the autumn he returns to La Scala, Milan, as Boris Ismailov.

Other recent highlights have included his debuts at La Scala, Milan, in the title role of Cherubini’s Ali Baba, at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as King René (Iolanta) and at the Glyndebourne Festival as Vodník (Rusalka), a role he has also sung under Robin Ticciati at the Musikfest Berlin. In Berlin he has also sung Ramfis (Aida) and Colline at the Deutsche Oper and Tsar Dodon (The Golden Cockerel) at the Komische Oper. He has performed in Turandot and Boris Godunov at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette) in Malmö, in War and Peace in Geneva and in his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in 2023, and as Kochubei (Mazeppa) in 2024 at the Tyrolean Festival Erl.

Alexander Roslavets is a prize-winner of numerous competitions, including the International Music Competition in Harbin in 2018 and, in 2017, the Norwegian Queen Sonja Singing Competition and the Elena Obraztsova Competition. He won the special prize at the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition and the second prize at the CLIP Portofino International Opera Singing Competition.
